Erykah Badu and The Alchemist have embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration, “Before the World Blows: The Abi and Alan Experiment,” slated for release on Friday through Young/Control Freaq Records. The shifting soundscape of the album serves as a framework for exploring themes of affection, artistic purpose, selfhood, and the emotional survival inherent in loss and transformation. A wide spectrum of collaborators joined the experiment, including DJ Creole Princess, Westside Gunn, and Joi, alongside Steve Lacy, DRAM, and Thundercat. Westside Gunn returns with “No I.D.
