The Techiman-Krobo Youth Association (TKYA) has issued a serious warning, expressing profound frustration with the continued delay in the release of the findings from an investigative committee examining the closure of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC). Principal Hellen Dwamena’s reinstatement has ignited a wave of discontent amongst residents, and the TKYA is demanding immediate transparency and accountability from authorities. General Secretary Gyan Isaac Kentinka stated this on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, emphasizing the community’s determination to halt any attempt to reinstate the principal without addressing the concerns raised by students and residents. The delay, he emphasized, has heightened tensions within the community, fueling demands for a swift resolution.

The report, initially slated for release on August 11, 2026, by the Health Ministry, has been repeatedly delayed, triggering widespread anxiety among students and community leaders. Mr Kentinka warned that the continued postponement is creating a climate of uncertainty and demands that the authorities demonstrate a genuine commitment to resolving the issues that led to the school’s closure. He specifically stated that ‘Nobody will step foot there,’ a sentiment repeated throughout the community’s communications.

Mr Kentinka cautioned that the delay is creating uncertainty among students who regularly contact community leaders for updates. He further expressed concern regarding reports circulating suggesting political influence within the administration, alleging that some politicians are collaborating with the principal to avoid accountability. He acknowledged the confidence in the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and expressed hope that he will ensure the committee’s findings are made public. He underscored the TKYA’s call for President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and facilitate a fair and transparent process.

The TKYA’s stance follows a series of protests by students of the NMTC, who are demanding a resolution to the administrative issues surrounding the institution. The Health Ministry subsequently constituted a committee to investigate the situation, which resulted in the school’s temporary closure pending the outcome of the investigation. Mr Kentinka reiterated the community’s resolute opposition to any decision that constitutes a ‘repulsive’ move and warned that reopening the institution without addressing their concerns could trigger further resistance and potential escalation of the situation. He stated that ‘The community has vowed to retaliate against any repulsive decision,’ further highlighting the community’s determination to protect its interests.

According to official sources, the Health Ministry has affirmed that the committee’s report will be released on August 11, 2026, but the community remains unconvinced. The delay is causing significant disruption, impacting student enrollment and potentially hindering the vocational training program. The community’s demands underscore a deep-seated dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of the situation, solidifying their position as a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability.”

This situation represents a significant challenge to the administration, as it threatens to undermine the trust placed in the authorities and potentially lead to further unrest. The TKYA’s actions are being interpreted as a coordinated effort to pressure the Ministry to act decisively and address the concerns of the community. The investigation’s outcome will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the future of the NMTC and the students it serves. The delay continues to create a palpable sense of tension within the Techiman-Krobo community, underlining the importance of a swift and transparent resolution.”

Statistical data indicates that the closure of the NMTC has caused considerable economic hardship for the local community, affecting employment opportunities and disrupting vital training programs. The Ministry has stated that the investigation will focus on understanding the root causes of the closure and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the vocational training program. The community’s protests demonstrate the deep-seated need for a comprehensive and impartial review of the situation.
