The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North, Johnson Adom, has issued a statement clarifying the decision to halt a regional investigation into a recent controversy at the Techiman-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College. The statement was delivered during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, where the DCE explained the rationale behind this strategic pause in the inquiry. The incident, which sparked student protests at the college, has triggered a review of the investigation’s structure and jurisdiction.
The initial investigation was spearheaded by a five-member committee formed by the Bono East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and District Security Council (DISEC) following a student protest. Subsequently, the Ministry of Health, responsible for overseeing the college’s operations, established a seven-member committee to independently examine the situation. Mr. Adom emphasized that the decision to allow the Ministry of Health’s committee to take the lead was a deliberate choice designed to avoid duplication of effort. He stated, ‘The Ministry of Health, which has the supervisory role, also set up a seven-member committee to look into the issue.’
The Ministry of Health’s committee, after its investigations, subsequently visited the Techiman-Krobo campus and conducted its own assessments. According to Mr. Adom, the committee subsequently convened a meeting with local authorities before departing to submit their findings to the Ministry of Health in Accra. He further explained that the committee subsequently informed local authorities that they would return to Accra to compile their report and submit it to the Ministry.
Mr. Adom acknowledged that authorities are currently awaiting the complete report and recommendations from both the Ministry of Health and the investigating committee. He emphasized that the process is intended to thoroughly assess the situation and determine the most appropriate course of action. ‘So, we are all waiting for the report and recommendations so that we can see the real issues and determine the way forward,’ he stated.
The controversy follows a student protest at the Techiman-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College concerning concerns about the institution’s administration. The incident has drawn attention from community leaders and authorities, leading to investigations by both regional authorities and the Ministry of Health.
