Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has delivered a detailed overview of recent security gains achieved by the Ghana government, highlighting the successful completion of training for 10,000 recruits across a diverse range of public safety agencies. The announcement, made at a Government Accountability Series meeting, underscores the government’s sustained commitment to bolstering the country’s security architecture and tackling organized crime.
Specifically, the Minister revealed that the first batch of 10,000 applicants to the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and Ghana Immigration Service are currently undergoing intensive training. This initiative, a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s law enforcement capabilities, represents a substantial investment in personnel readiness.
Furthermore, the government has announced that another 10,000 recruits are scheduled to commence training next year, building upon the existing pool of successful applicants. Mr. Muntaka stated that this expansion represents a proactive approach to maintaining a robust security posture. He indicated that 26 suspects have been successfully prosecuted in the courts, with 25 currently standing trial, demonstrating a dedicated focus on prosecuting criminal activity.
In response to election-related killings, the Minister reported a significant decrease in the number of suspects put before the courts. As of July 2026, 3,241 migrant beggars had been repatriated to neighboring countries, representing a substantial reduction from the initial 26 suspects in 2026. This figure represents a marked improvement in the government’s efforts to manage vulnerable populations and prevent exploitation.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has yielded notable results, with operations resulting in 217 arrests and 165 prosecutions. The Minister also stated that assets and cash valued exceeding GH¢6.9 million and US$440,000 have been restrained, demonstrating a concerted effort to disrupt financial operations supporting criminal activities.
