Ghanaian satirist and broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known as KSM, has vehemently refuted claims that his advocacy for national development is being funded by individuals or political interests. In a recent Facebook post and remarks on his programme, KSM stated his commitment to nation-building was driven by a personal desire to contribute to Ghana’s progress rather than financial gain. This assertion comes amidst a growing controversy surrounding allegations suggesting that KSM is receiving money from undisclosed groups due to his views and public advocacy. According to KSM, such assumptions undermine the significant sacrifices made by citizens who genuinely seek to see the country flourish. He argued that not every effort to promote national development should be interpreted as a financially motivated activity. ‘Sometimes people don’t understand those of us who are looking for nation-building,’ he asserted, challenging those making the allegations to identify whose payroll he was supposedly on. ‘We are not here every day to flap and talk about building Ghana because we are on payroll,’ he added, further emphasizing his determination to remain focused on his work. KSM clarified that his comments were directed at the few individuals who believe or promote such claims, not at the majority of his audience, whom he characterized as understanding the motivation behind his work. He insisted that neither he nor his team had received financial inducements to pursue their advocacy and unequivocally stated there was no intention to do so. The broadcaster recounted his experience with his producer, emphasizing the importance of a commitment to service, which he believed was essential for contributing to Ghana’s development. According to KSM, his producer had previously considered opportunities outside the country but ultimately decided to remain in Ghana and collaborate with him on developing his programme. He asserted that the producer’s position was essentially that they should remain in Ghana, work together and build something worthwhile. KSM said the decision to stay and contribute locally reflected a commitment to building something for the country rather than pursuing opportunities solely for financial benefit. He concluded by stating that the decision to address the allegations before continuing with his programme was a deliberate act to set the record straight. He maintained that financial inducement has never been the motivation behind his advocacy for nation-building.
