The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for nurses and allied health professionals recently recruited and posted to various districts to report to their assigned places of work, effective August 31, 2026. This extension follows a period of significant scrutiny and clarification regarding the recruitment and posting process, which the Ministry describes as a final extension for all affected professionals. The Ministry’s revised timeline is a direct response to circulating public information suggesting a misleading process, and it signifies a significant shift in the established framework for these roles. According to the Ministry, the extension is a culmination of ongoing investigations and a reassessment of the recruitment procedures, undertaken amid allegations of inconsistencies and potential fraud within the initial stages of the process. The Ministry has emphasized that the initial recruitment, posting, and salary payment processes were conducted under a defined, documented system, which now requires further rigorous verification. The Ministry initially received financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance before opening the recruitment portal for eligible applicants. Subsequently, applicants are required to apply for postings to their preferred districts and undergo interviews in their respective districts. Successful applicants then accept their postings, after which assigned facilities confirm their assumption of duty and submit the required documentation to Ghana Health Service, Christian Health Association of Ghana, and other relevant agencies. An appointment letter is subsequently generated by the relevant agency to enable the applicant to complete the processes required for salary input. Following completion of the salary input process, the facility validates the worker’s salary before payment is effected by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD). The Ministry stressed that every recruited professional must complete these processes before salary payment can be made, describing the procedure as necessary to ensure that only genuine workers are paid and to prevent payment for work not done or the creation of ghost names. The Ministry has therefore directed Human Resource Directors and other relevant officers to expedite the necessary processes to ensure that all eligible professionals who have reported for duty are promptly captured and processed for salary payment. Directors and managers have also been instructed to use the September 2026 data entry window to mechanize all professionals who have assumed duty. The Ministry of Health has therefore urged all affected professionals to take advantage of the final extension and report to their assigned facilities within the stipulated period. Furthermore, the Ministry has warned that professionals who fail to report to their assigned facilities by August 31, without an approved and justifiable reason, will have their names removed from the recruitment and posting system. Such vacancies will subsequently be filled through a mop-up exercise scheduled for the first week of September 2026. The Ministry of Health has further emphasized that the process is designed to ensure that only genuine workers are paid and to prevent payment for work not done or the creation of ghost names.
