An ambitious aspirant for the position of National Nasara Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awal Mohammed, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to restructure the party’s Nasara Wing and significantly bolster its presence within Zongo communities across the nation, specifically for the 2028 general elections. This commitment follows his nomination on August 25th, where he emphasized his background in the NPP’s communications team, positioning him uniquely to lead a new, rebranded wing.
Mr. Mohammed stated his intention to fundamentally restructure the Nasara Wing, emphasizing the need for a functional grassroots structure capable of meticulously identifying, organizing, and maintaining reliable records of Nasara members nationwide. He explained that the existing data gaps within the Nasara Wing, particularly concerning students affiliated with the organization on university campuses, represent a critical challenge that demands immediate attention.
He asserted that the establishment of the Nasara Wing was designed to cultivate a robust intellectual base for the NPP, however, the absence of a robust coordination system has hindered its ability to effectively track and maintain member records. If elected, Mr. Mohammed envisions establishing these structures at the grassroots level, implementing systems designed to improve membership tracking and organizational coordination.
Furthermore, he highlighted significant achievements of the NPP during its eight years in government, particularly within Zongo communities. Specifically, he cited the pivotal establishment of the Zongo Development Fund and the decision to make Arabic an examinable subject, initiatives that were subsequently implemented. However, he admitted a failure to effectively communicate these achievements to beneficiaries, a situation he believes contributed significantly to the party’s difficulties in the 2024 election cycle.
According to Mr. Mohammed, the NDC took advantage of this communication gap, demonstrating a need for the NPP to enhance its engagement with Zongo communities. He emphasized that his political communication experience will be a vital asset in addressing this challenge.
Mr. Mohammed further detailed his extensive experience representing the NPP on international media platforms, particularly through Hausa-language programs on BBC, Voice of America, and Deutsche Welle. His regular representation on these platforms has cultivated the communication skills necessary to effectively explain the NPP’s policies and distinguish the party’s message from that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He believes this experience has provided him with the crucial skills to engage Zongo communities effectively.
He asserted that the Nasara Wing needs a strong voice capable of directly addressing the party’s message to Zongo communities and bolstering confidence in the NPP. His ultimate objective is to transform the wing into a well-organized and effective mobilization structure capable of significantly enhancing the NPP’s support in Zongo communities and contributing to victory in the 2028 elections. He expressed confidence in his chances and anticipated a thorough vetting process, following which he would begin engaging communities and working towards strengthening the party’s position.
He also expressed his intention to withdraw from the National NPP chairmanship race, urging support for Bawumia. Paul Afoko promises total discipline within the NPP if elected National Chairman, further reinforcing the commitment to strengthening the party’s organization.”
