The Lindsay Clancy trial resumes Monday in Plymouth Superior Court with a critical phase of forensic psychiatrist testimony, a key development in the ongoing Massachusetts murder case. You can watch the live proceedings on CBS News Boston via the video player attached to this article, or on the WBZ-TV YouTube page when court is in session. The trial is currently focused on the prosecution’s rebuttal witnesses, including a forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Avram Mack, who will be cross-examined by defense attorney Kevin Reddington.

Dr. Mack testified Friday that he met with Clancy at Tewksbury Hospital in April, and she recalled telling her three children to "go to God" as she killed them in her Duxbury home. He was being cross-examined by Reddington when court ended on Friday. The prosecution is aggressively attempting to establish Clancy’s mental state, particularly concerning postpartum psychosis, as a contributing factor to the murders.

Reddington stated that the prosecution expects to call two more witnesses, with the closing arguments expected this week. The defense has rested on Dr. Resnick’s testimony, which concluded that Clancy reported feeling an ‘external force’ before the murders, suggesting a potential psychological event.

The defense argues Clancy planned the murders and has suggested her suicide attempt was not serious, asserting she was overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis. The prosecution contends she should not be held accountable because she was overmedicated and experiencing a mental health crisis.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, Dawson, and Callan.

The prosecution highlights Clancy’s plan to murder her children, claiming she orchestrated the entire series of events. They’ve suggested her suicide attempt was not serious, arguing it was a manifestation of her mental state. The defense maintains she was overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis, arguing that her attempt to commit suicide was a result of these conditions, not a premeditated act.

You can also access the resources listed at the bottom of this article, including information about mental healthcare and support organizations.

This case involves significant legal and ethical considerations, including the potential for a lengthy trial and a potential sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted.

The prosecution is seeking to maintain Clancy’s status as a defendant, highlighting her potential for a lengthy sentence if found criminally responsible. The defense is fighting to ensure she is not held accountable, seeking a state psychiatric hospital in Massachusetts for continued care and treatment.
