The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive instructing junior high school (JHS) principals to upload candidate data for the 2026 placement exercise onto the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal, effective Monday, August 24th to Thursday, August 27th, 2026. This initiative follows a previous GES communication dated August 18th, 2026, concerning the activation of the WAEC portal for capturing and uploading candidate data. The directive, signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division (Secondary), underscores the critical need for a streamlined and efficient placement process for the 2026 cohort. Headteachers are specifically instructed to complete the uploading process by the close of work on Monday, August 24th. Following this, they are required to capture and upload the relevant school selection data onto the WAEC portal, a feature designed to facilitate concurrent data capture and upload across multiple computers, thereby bolstering the exercise’s completion rate. The GES emphasizes that the WAEC portal allows for the simultaneous use of the same school identification number and password on various computers, a significant advantage for schools with a large number of candidates. Furthermore, the Service has directed Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education and Examination Coordinators to closely monitor and supervise the exercise, ensuring that all eligible candidates’ data is accurately captured, verified, and submitted within the stipulated timeframe. The GES has also tasked Regional Directors of Education with communicating this directive to all relevant schools within their jurisdictions and ensuring strict compliance. This exercise is a crucial component of the GES’s preparations for the 2026 placement of candidates into second-cycle institutions.
