A motorbike ride ended in a devastating collision at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, resulting in the tragic death of an immigration officer, Amoakoh, popularly known as Ahuoden, and a police officer, Stone, critically injured. The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Monday, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to eyewitness accounts, the motorbike, traveling at an extreme speed on a largely deserted stretch of highway, abruptly veered off the road and slammed into the concrete staircase of a store near the Assin Fosu Town Market. Witness Joseph Okyere, known as Assin Trendz, described the scene as ‘horrific’ and recounted that the pair were headed towards Kumasi Road, presumably towards the Assin Fosu Main Lorry Station, at approximately 1:00 AM.
The account indicates the motorbike was traveling at a considerable speed, a factor contributing to the severity of the impact. Witnesses report that the motorbike impacted a concrete staircase, and the impact was reportedly forceful, causing the motorbike to lose control and veer off the road. The impact itself appears to have resulted in Mr. Amoakoh’s death at the scene, with reports suggesting he struck his head against the roadside gutter.
“It was a terrible scene,” recounted Joseph Okyere. “The motorbike was moving so fast. It was like it was going to crash into anything. The officer, Mr. Amoakoh, was clearly not wearing a helmet. It was a horrifying sight.”
Police have confirmed the death of Mr. Amoakoh, and paramedics immediately pronounced him dead at the scene. The surviving police officer, Stone, sustained severe injuries. He is currently hospitalized at St. Francis Xavier Hospital, where he is receiving intensive care. According to hospital officials, Stone suffered fractures to his left arm and left leg, necessitating immediate medical attention.
Officers from the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have initiated a thorough investigation into the crash. They have impounded the damaged motorbike for examination and are investigating the exact circumstances leading to the collision. The investigation is focused on establishing the cause of the accident, which the MTTD officials are currently assessing.
Initial reports indicate that the motorbike was owned by Mr. Amoakoh and was reportedly a popular mode of transportation within the Assin Fosu community. The vehicle’s exact condition and ownership history are currently under investigation.
