Evelyn Nsiah Asare, CEO of Hasaacas Ladies, remains optimistic about the Black Queens’ chances of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, despite their disappointing performance in the 2026 WAFCON. The team’s journey has been significantly impacted by a series of changes following the quarter-final defeat against Malawi, culminating in their elimination before the semi-final stage. The Black Queens will now compete in the preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Tournament, commencing November 24 to December 5, 2026. Ghana will begin their campaign against Ecuador on Matchday One, followed by Uzbekistan on Matchday Two. The Hasaacas Ladies CEO acknowledged the difficulties caused by the disruptions to their training schedule and tournament preparations. She stated, ‘We had a team before we went for the tournament, and now, when you talk about Black Queens, there have been so many changes as far as training tour and other stuff are concerned,’ highlighting a significant shift in the team’s operational strategy. The defeat at WAFCON, particularly considering Ghana’s prior qualifications for the World Cup in three occasions, has been a major blow to the team’s ambitions. However, Nsiah Asare maintains a strong belief in the team’s potential to reach the global tournament. She emphasized that the team will now focus on the remaining qualification route, stressing the financial and logistical demands of the alternative path. The CEO admitted that, at the beginning of the tournament, her expectations were considerably higher, with the ultimate goal of winning the WAFCON for the first time. She further stated, ‘In fact, at the beginning of this tournament, my thinking was that we were going to lift this trophy for the first time, but it didn’t materialize.’ Despite the disappointment, Nsiah Asare remains resolute in the team’s ambition, asserting that the Black Queens must now prioritize maximizing their opportunity to qualify for Brazil 2027. The Black Queens’ WAFCON campaign has been a notable underperformance, finishing third in the previous edition.
