The legal battle surrounding RealBleeda, a 24-year-old rapper known as David Catherine, continues to escalate following a judge’s firm decision to deny his bond request in the 2024 murder case connected to the death of Teressa Calligan, a youth advocate at the Walls Project. Since September, RealBleeda has been incarcerated since his arrest, a situation that Judge Louise Hines, the presiding judge, has maintained, keeping him in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Calligan, a prominent figure within the community, was the dean of coding for the Futures Fund division of the Walls Project, spearheading crucial initiatives that provided teenagers with real-world tech skills and opportunities. The case, which has been building since September, centers around the shooting of Calligan on September 15, 2024, where she was stopped at a red light when a vehicle pulled up beside her. She lost control of her car, resulting in a crash into a sheriff’s office unit, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. According to WBRZ, RealBleeda is one of three defendants, alongside Roger Parker and Robert Lewis, both facing the same charges. RealBleeda’s legal team attempted to utilize an alibi witness, McKenzie Roach, who testified that she was with the rapper at his West Baton Rouge home the night Calligan was killed. Her attorney, Ryan Thompson, argued that police oversight of this witness was inadequate, potentially altering the trajectory of the case. The judge, however, wasn’t convinced enough to grant him release. In Louisiana, first-degree murder carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty, placing RealBleeda squarely in serious legal jeopardy. Court records reveal RealBleeda is connected to the Bleedas gang, a fact documented in a Monroe case. The situation remains contentious, with the judge maintaining a strict bond restriction, a decision that has further complicated the legal proceedings.
