Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring a potential transfer deal involving Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with talks progressing rapidly. The potential move, valued at £300 million, is fueled by a desire to bolster their attacking capabilities, particularly in the face of injury concerns within the squad and a significant increase in club spending following a successful summer transfer window. Spurs have already invested heavily in key areas, with Jan Paul van Hecke and Sandro Tonali already securing their central midfield positions, and Mateus Fernandes securing the position of right-back. However, the speculation surrounding Marmoush’s arrival is intensifying, with the North London club’s summer budget exceeding £300 million potentially shifting the landscape of the transfer market. The Egyptian international, known for his dynamic playmaking and goal-scoring ability, has endured periods of injury, while team-mate Richarlison is also facing the challenge of a contract year nearing its conclusion. Marmoush’s influence at City has diminished considerably, and the numbers suggest Tottenham would be acquiring a forward whose skillset differs considerably from their existing options. The initial reports indicate that Tottenham are keen on securing Marmoush, with a potential agreement to £75 million for the player, though this remains subject to final negotiations.

Initial reports indicate that Manchester City’s Savinho has also been discussed, adding to the overall discussion. Marmoush, who began his career with Frankfurt in 2023, initially played in the Bundesliga, scoring 17 times in 62 appearances for the German side. He subsequently moved to the Premier League with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 15 goals across 8.9 expected goals (xG) in the first half of 2024-25, and added nine assists in 17 league appearances. His contributions extended beyond scoring – he became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues since Lionel Messi in 2019 to score directly from a free-kick in three consecutive competitive matches. Manchester City, recognizing Marmoush’s potential, subsequently paid £59 million for him in January 2025. The early indications suggest that Marmoush’s performance in the Premier League has been inconsistent, with a 3.53 expected goals (xG) figure, close to his actual scoring output. He has only played in eight league games, with a total of 700 minutes, significantly fewer than his usual output after joining Tottenham.

Onuoha, former Manchester City defender, offered a cautiously optimistic assessment. He stated, “When I see Marmoush, I don’t see the penalty miss,” he explained. “I see the strength he has with some of the runs he makes in behind. He’s a really versatile player, capable of creating chances from anywhere on the pitch.”

Onuoha further highlighted Marmoush’s ability to play in multiple positions, suggesting he’s comfortable dropping into midfield and creating chances for himself and others. He’s averaging 11.46 runs in behind per 90 minutes, almost identical to Solanke’s 11.61 and ahead of Richarlison’s 10.03, while Marmoush’s success rate is slightly better. He led both Tottenham’s forwards for shots, chances created, successful take-ons, and touches in the opposition penalty area, with 3.86 shots per game compared with Richarlison’s 2.81 and Solanke’s 1.80. He also produced 0.77 goals and assists per game, ahead of Richarlison’s 0.69 and Solanke’s 0.27.

Opta’s Premier League numbers show Marmoush averaged 5.67 progressive carries per 90 minutes, compared with Solanke’s 3.24 and Richarlison’s 2.48, while Marmoush created 1.55 chances against 0.92 and 0.54 respectively. He had 3.86 shots per 90 minutes compared with Richarlison’s 2.81 and Solanke’s 1.80, while Marmoush created 1.55 chances against 0.92 and 0.54 respectively.

Onuoha believes that Marmoush’s ability to run in behind and manufacture shooting opportunities will be a significant asset for Tottenham, potentially complementing the existing forward trio. He suggests that De Zerbi’s playing style could suit Marmoush better, allowing for a more dynamic and attacking formation. The situation surrounding Marmoush’s future remains uncertain, but the reports suggest Tottenham are actively pursuing a transfer, and the potential for a significant midfield addition is a key consideration for the club’s strategy. The club’s next transfer window will likely be focused on securing a player with the qualities to add a new dimension to their team.
