President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a significant commitment to complete and commission the initial 700 housing units at the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project by March 2027, marking a vital step in the government’s ongoing effort to revitalize the long-delayed development. This initiative represents a substantial expansion of the 1,500 housing units targeted by the government by December 2027, with the remaining units slated to follow. The President stated during a recent inspection tour of the Saglemi site, where construction has resumed through a partnership between the government and private sector firms, that this project was initiated under the leadership of late President John Evans Atta Mills but faced significant hurdles following a change in government and legal challenges. The delay has also exposed vulnerabilities to vandalism, resulting in the theft of electrical cables, bathroom fittings, and other critical installations. “Looters came in and stole everything, the cables, the wash basins, the baths, all the fittings, electrical bulbs,” he explained. According to President Mahama, the government subsequently opted for private sector participation to ensure the project’s successful completion. LMI Holdings was selected to lead the redevelopment, demonstrating a strategic focus on placing the estate close to industrial centers in Tema and the Dawa Industrial Area, facilitating convenient access to workers in those areas. The President emphasized that the location strategically positions the estate for efficient housing provision. Furthermore, the project is being complemented by the development of critical infrastructure, including water supply and solar power facilities, designed to support the housing needs of the local workforce. He added that mortgage and loan facilities are being provided to prospective homeowners, with financial institutions, including the National Homeownership Fund, preparing financing arrangements to assist buyers with deposits and mortgage payments. The President noted that these financing schemes are designed to allow beneficiaries to spread payments over a period of time at relatively affordable interest rates, contributing to increased accessibility to housing. Information regarding the registration process, pricing, and financing options will be announced when the official portal for prospective homeowners is launched, a move expected to be a crucial step in the project’s advancement. NPA Deputy Chief Executive Dr Dramani Bukari also addressed concerns regarding disciplinary action against a student at Damongo, further highlighting the government’s dedication to ensuring a safe and responsible environment for all students. “NPA Deputy Chief Executive Dr Dramani Bukari laid to rest in Damongo” The government’s commitment to this housing project underscores its dedication to addressing the growing housing shortage and fostering economic growth within the region. The project’s success is crucial for supporting the economic development of the area, offering opportunities for employment and attracting investment.”}” ,
