The Luv FM Kel-Charcoal Toothpaste High School Debate has concluded with a resounding defeat for Prempeh College, leaving them dethroned as champions after a disheartening loss to Church of Christ Senior High School (CHRISSEC).
The two schools engaged in a highly anticipated and intensely competitive match, dubbed ‘The Underdog vs. Titan,’ where defending champions Prempeh College was widely anticipated to secure a comfortable victory. However, the boys from the Royal Greenland suffered a significant setback, with CHRISSEC producing a spirited and determined performance to knock them out of the competition.
The debate centered on the motion, ‘Adding towing services to insurance premium is disingenuous,’ with Prempeh College advocating for the motion and CHRISSEC opposing it. Prempeh College argued that customers should be entitled to these services without additional payment, citing the importance of insurance coverage. Their speaker, identified as Mr. Samuel Awesé, emphasized the deservingness of such services, stating, ‘If one is paying for a premium service, they deserve to receive it without further charges.’
CHRISSEC, however, mounted a vigorous counter-argument, skillfully rebutting Prempeh’s arguments. They employed a series of effective rebuttals, effectively disrupting the defending champions’ momentum. The debate saw a complex exchange of arguments, with both sides attempting to sway the judges, who ultimately awarded a unanimous decision to CHRISSEC, ending Prempeh College’s title defense with a 242-221 victory.
‘We’ve done the impossible,’ proclaimed CHRISSEC head boy, identified as Kofi Kwame Nkrumah, passionately, signifying the culmination of their hard-fought battle. This result sends Prempeh College crashing out, while CHRISSEC advances to the quarter-finals.
In a closely contested encounter, T.I. AMASS Kumasi faced last year’s finalists and two-time winners, Kumasi High School (KUHIS). The debate centered on the motion, ‘The teaching of feminist ideologies to girls in our schools should cease.’
T.I. AMASS argued in favor of the motion, contending that with women’s rights already widely recognized and promoted, continuing to teach feminist ideologies in schools had become unnecessary. Kumasi High School countered, emphasizing that feminist ideologies continue to inspire young women to aspire to leadership and reach the highest levels of society. The KUHIS team pointed to Chairperson Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, as an example of the impact such ideals can have on women’s advancement. The contest produced a tense battle of arguments, rebuttals, and composure, with neither side willing to surrender its position.
In the end, Kumasi High School edged T.I. AMASS by a narrow margin, securing a 234-233 victory by majority decision of the judges.
The result sees KUHIS joining KNUST Senior High School and St Louis Senior High School in the quarter-finals. The victory sparked celebrations among KUHIS students and supporters. ‘Last year we were finalists. This year, we will be the champions. To all schools that have already qualified and all schools that are here to qualify, watch out for Kumasi High School,’ declared a student, declaring victory.
With Prempeh College now eliminated, the race for the title has been thrown wide open. A new champion will be crowned this year, with the remaining schools battling for the opportunity to etch their names into the history of the Luv FM High School Debate.
