The commercial driver community in Kumasi has welcomed the enactment of the Road Traffic Amendment Bill, 2025, representing a significant shift in transport regulations within the region. This legislation, formally titled the ‘Road Traffic Amendment Bill, 2025,’ addresses crucial areas including alcohol concentration limits for drivers, the commercial utilization of motorcycles, tricycles, and quadricycles, mandatory safety equipment requirements, and the regulation of commercial driver licensing. According to drivers, the amendments are intended to bolster road safety and restore order within the transport sector, a sentiment echoed by Trustee Mr Eric Duodu of the Anloga Junction Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU). The bill, passed in December 2025, amends the 2004 Road Traffic Act, effectively transforming existing regulations pertaining to traffic laws and safety protocols.
