The Assin Fosu District Court has formally convicted three young men for a brazen and deeply concerning scheme: defrauding 26-year-old trader Shalean Stella Bamfo of GH¢38,450 through a fraudulent electronic money transaction. The incident, which unfolded on July 21, 2026, represents a significant breach of trust and a substantial financial loss for the victim. The prosecution, led by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, presided over the proceedings, and the three individuals – 24-year-old footballers Francis Appiah and Emmanuel Oteng, alias Flow Delli, and 21-year-old Emmanuel Antwi – were all residents of Assin Breku. The court ordered them to refund the full amount taken from the complainant, Shalean Stella Bamfo, a sum totaling GH¢38,450. The prosecution contends that this fraudulent activity occurred when Appiah allegedly contacted Ms. Bamfo, falsely claiming he had transferred funds to her. He reportedly engaged her in a prolonged conversation, directing her to a nearby mobile money merchant where she was tricked into transferring GH¢38,450 to three MTN numbers registered in the names of Saar Hassana, Rebecca Bosiako Antwi, and Sarah Gyeti Arthur. According to the prosecution, Appiah later transferred GH¢6,290 to Antwi as his share of the proceeds, a transfer which triggered the subsequent realization by the complainant that she had been deceived. The investigation, initiated by telecommunications companies and the police, led to the arrest of the three men at a hideout in Assin Breku. The court, in its judgment, found them to be first-time offenders, but also issued a crucial warning: any further involvement in criminal conduct could result in imprisonment. The judge cautioned that the men risked facing penalties if apprehended again for engaging in fraudulent activities, urging them to abandon these illicit practices and seek legitimate pathways to livelihood. The Central North Regional Police Cybercrime Unit was also commended for its efforts in investigating and combating cyber-related crimes within the region, highlighting a proactive response to this emerging threat. The case underscores the gravity of the offense and the potential consequences for those involved, demonstrating a commitment to upholding the rights of victims and prosecuting criminal activity. The court recorded a caution statement from each defendant, indicating a willingness to cooperate with the investigation and a promise to cease their fraudulent activities.
