The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has formally recognized and promoted 25 exemplary officers across the Ghana Police Service, signifying a renewed commitment to bolstering the nation’s fight against crime. The announcement, made on Monday, August 10, 2026, details a series of significant promotions, recognizing officers’ crucial contributions to a multifaceted effort aimed at reducing criminal activity within the country. The promotion program, a cornerstone of the IGP’s strategy, was initiated in response to a surge in reported crimes and a dedication to bolstering the effectiveness of the police force.
The officers were lauded for their outstanding performance in a range of operations, notably in the Bono East, Tema, and Western Central Police Regions. Specifically, six suspects were apprehended in a robbery incident that occurred in the Portor-Kawempe stretch of the Kintampo-Buipe Highway on July 19, 2026, and the arrest of four individuals linked to a violent robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area. These arrests were directly attributed to the officers’ diligent investigation and proactive engagement. Furthermore, the officers were commended for their crucial role in the interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour, a significant development that underscores the police’s efforts to combat illicit trade.
The promotions encompass a diverse range of exemplary conduct. Chief Inspector Bede Nwinbomeh and General Sergeants Elijah Ndaga Yinimi and Kaifan Sulemanna were recognized for their outstanding contributions, while General Corporals Owusu Ansah Evans and Tansang Jonathan were also commended. Notably, General Lance Corporals Osei Christopher Bonny, Kyei Francis, Ofori Francis, Anim Dominic, and Asante Isaac were promoted to their next ranks, demonstrating the IGP’s emphasis on recognizing and rewarding dedication and skill.
