Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has issued a forceful statement to Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, demanding a more receptive and constructive approach to criticisms regarding the institution’s operations. His remarks come amidst a growing public outcry fueled by allegations circulating on social media concerning a man identified as Dominic Bonsu and claims of a GH¢200 million loss within GoldBod’s financial records. Mr. Gyamfi has dismissed these allegations as a deliberate campaign aimed at undermining his credibility and GoldBod’s standing, a move that has sparked a significant debate within the Ghanaian business community and among political observers.
Mr. Gyamfi, speaking on X Spaces on August 9th, unequivocally denied any involvement of his security personnel in gold trading or the alleged misappropriation of Gold Bod funds. He stated, ‘None of my bodyguards is involved in gold trading, and none of my bodyguards has stolen or taken Gold Board money.’ Furthermore, he refuted the claim made by Dominic Bonsu, stating that Bonsu was a licensed gold dealer and a member of the NPP constituency executive in the Manso area of the Ashanti Region. He clarified that Bonsu is even a constituency executive in the NPP, further solidifying the point that he is not a figure who might be targeted by political supporters or media commentators.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin urged the CEO to address concerns based on substance rather than resorting to personal attacks and attacks against critics. He added that ‘I am sure you should have a certain level of tolerance to even listen to the issues we raise,’ suggesting that the current situation demands a more measured response from the GoldBod leadership.
