The Ministry of Health has formally established a seven-member committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent unrest that erupted at the Nursing Training College, Techiman-Krobo. This move represents a significant escalation in the Ministry’s commitment to addressing the situation and ensuring accountability following the incident. The committee, chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong, Deputy Registrar of Health Facilities at the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority (HeFRA) and former Dean of the School of Nursing at the University for Development Studies (UDS), is expected to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the disturbances and formulate recommendations for appropriate action. The committee’s mandate encompasses a multifaceted investigation, including a critical review of existing institutional policies, codes of conduct, and administrative procedures, with a particular focus on identifying any shortcomings that may have contributed to the unrest. Furthermore, the committee will be tasked with assessing whether the college adhered to established protocols and guidelines during the period leading up to the incident. The committee’s members are a diverse group of experts and stakeholders, bringing together legal, administrative, and healthcare professionals. Mr. Ahmed Bennett Mumuni, Human Resource Manager of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, will be a key member, alongside Nana Asa Akon Panin, Techiman-Krobohene, Mrs. Hepthzebah Gyimah, Deputy Director of Operations and representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Mrs. Isha Sena Iddrisu, Secretary, Dr. Inua Yussuf Issahaku Esq., Legal Director of the Ministry of Health, and Professor Vida Nyagre Yekong. The committee is scheduled to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister of Health on or before August 11, 2026. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to transparency, accountability, and a comprehensive assessment of events surrounding the disturbances at the nursing training institution. The establishment of this committee is a direct response to the growing concerns and demands for a swift and impartial resolution to the situation. The Ministry’s initial statement indicates that this investigation is part of a broader effort to bolster institutional oversight and ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation of the events leading to the unrest, aiming to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The committee’s work is expected to significantly influence future policy decisions and operational strategies within the healthcare sector, particularly concerning the safety and well-being of nursing personnel. The investigation is being closely monitored by stakeholders across the region, with regular updates expected to be disseminated through official channels. The Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the nursing training program is paramount, and this committee represents a crucial step in achieving that goal. The committee will likely analyze data related to student enrollment, staff training, and resource allocation to identify potential vulnerabilities. Further details regarding the committee’s specific investigative approach and scope will be released as the investigation progresses.
