Isa Muyiwa Adeshina, one of the 25 personnel on the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State, has been mourned by some of the students he taught during his days as a school teacher.
Adeshina’s official name is Flying Officer IM Adeshina, as published by the NAF.
The aircraft, with registration number NAF 931, was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred, with 25 people on board reported dead.
Adeshina worked as a Physics and Mathematics teacher at As-Siraat Comprehensive College, in the Amukoko area of Lagos State, between 2004 and 2010, TheCable reports Wednesday.
He later rose through the ranks to become a Vice Principal in the school.
In an interview with TheCable, the school principal, Ustadh Ahmad, spoke highly of the deceased NAF Flying Officer.
He recounted his dedication to work, as he was admired by the parents of the students.
The report quoted Ahmad as saying, “He was the Vice Principal of the school then. He was such a very intelligent and diligent man.
“He was so loved by the parents to the extent that when he wanted to leave the school for the Air Force programme, many parents pleaded that we should do everything to retain him.
“He was such a lovely guy. He is such an intelligent guy, very brilliant. So, I was not surprised to see him having promotions and all in the military. It’s so unfortunate.”
According to the report, the deceased, who hailed from Iwo in Osun State, “still has a mother,” as said by Ahmad, adding that some of his (Adeshina) relatives had relocated to their hometown.
Some of Adeshina’s students whom he taught at As-Siraat Comprehensive College poured in tributes to their late teacher on social media.
One of them, Ibrahim Damilola, wrote on Tuesday in a Facebook post, “Some people leave this world, but their words and lessons continue to live in the lives they touched.
“Mallam Isa Adeshina, one of my Junior Secondary School teachers, was among the Air Force personnel who tragically lost their lives in the plane crash.
“I still remember how he shared his personal story with us about becoming consistent in observing his Salat. His story deeply inspired me, and from my Junior Secondary School days, it encouraged me to remain consistent with my own Salat. I will always be grateful for that lesson.
“May Almighty Allah be pleased with his noble soul, forgive his shortcomings, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.”
Another former student, Lawal Kaothar, described Adeshina as one of the “foundations that built us.”
She wrote, “Ya Rabbi, your slave Isa Muyiwa Adeshina has returned to you. Forgive his shortcomings, grant him your mercy and make him an inmate of Jannah. He was one of the foundations that built us in As-siraat Comprehensive College.”
The report noted that nine days before the crash, Adeshina was commissioned as a flying officer after emerging as the best graduating cadet of Branch Commission Course 3, at the passing-out parade of cadets at the headquarters of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, on September 26, 2026.
The ceremony marked the formal commissioning of Adeshina and other cadets into the NAF as flying officers, the report added.
