Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, with the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, during their reconciliation meeting in Abuja.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has brokered a reconciliation between the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, following a political disagreement between the two Kano APC leaders.

The meeting, which was held in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, lasted about two hours and focused on resolving their differences and strengthening unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Yusuf urged Barau, Bichi and their supporters to sheathe their swords and put aside their grievances in the interest of the APC.

“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to this unnecessary distractions,” Yusuf said.

The governor also urged the two political leaders and their supporters to work together for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kano State Government and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

He said political disagreements were part of democratic engagement but should not be allowed to undermine the unity, stability and progress of the party.

Yusuf further appealed to supporters of both leaders to avoid inflammatory statements, character assassination and other actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.

“The APC remains one family, and all stakeholders have a responsibility to ensure that internal crises are resolved through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

The governor expressed confidence that the development would strengthen unity among APC leaders and supporters across Kano and improve the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

The statement said the reconciliation process received the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that Yusuf assured the President, the APC national leadership, the Kano State chairman and other stakeholders of the party’s readiness to work towards electoral success in the state.

“Gov. Abba K. Yusuf further assured the President and National Leader of the party, the National Chairman, the State Chairman and all critical stakeholders that the APC is set to win all elective positions in Kano come 2027 by God’s Grace,” the statement said.

Barau and Bichi subsequently cautioned their respective supporters against actions capable of fuelling the disagreement and pledged their continued support for the APC.

They also thanked Yusuf for intervening in the matter and working towards what they described as a truce and lasting reconciliation.

The disagreement between the two lawmakers had attracted growing attention within the Kano APC as political actors repositioned ahead of the 2027 general elections. Both Barau and Bichi are influential APC figures from Kano North and occupy senior positions at the National Assembly.

The development also comes after other reconciliation efforts by Governor Yusuf involving Kano political actors. In May, the governor helped broker an agreement between Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila and House of Representatives member Kabiru Alhassan Rurum over a political disagreement in Kano South.

Similarly, Yusuf previously played a role in resolving a disagreement between Barau and former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, over the Kano North senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 election. Gwarzo subsequently withdrew from the race in support of Barau.

The latest reconciliation comes as the Kano APC intensifies efforts to consolidate its structures ahead of the 2027 elections, with party leaders in Kano North recently calling for unity and warning members against factionalism and anti-party activities.*
