In the United States, Senator Chris Van Hollen urged Congress to stop funding the war in Iran. According to him, President Donald Trump is preparing to expand the U.S. military presence in the Middle East amid reports of a possible deployment of up to 10,000 additional troops to the region.
In a post on social media platform X, Van Hollen also accused the Trump administration of concealing data on casualties among U.S. military personnel. The senator called the military action in Iran an illegal war that, he said, was chosen by the president, and urged lawmakers not to allocate funds for it.
As Anadolu Agency reports, the statement came amid reports that the Pentagon is preparing to deploy a third carrier strike group and additional U.S. Marine Corps ships to the Middle East.

According to The Wall Street Journal, this deployment could increase the U.S. presence in the region by approximately 9,000–10,000 troops. Citing officials, the newspaper reported that ships, fighter jets, Marines and sailors could arrive by the end of November.
According to the publication, Trump is considering resuming strikes on Iran after the U.S. midterm elections in early November.
