A Yutong bus caught fire on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Asuboi in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station dispatched a seven-member crew led by ADO II Ocansey Bright after receiving reports of the vehicular fire involving the bus, registered GW 3886-26.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke emanating from the engine compartment of the bus.The crew immediately deployed a charged hose to cool the affected area and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the vehicle.
According to the GNFS, the driver noticed an engine warning light and an unusual sound while travelling before stopping the vehicle. It was after he stopped that he discovered the fire.
The incident caused partial damage to the engine compartment, but no casualties were recorded.
The GNFS said investigations are underway to establish what caused the fire.
