The Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Dr Eric Opoku, has presented irrigation equipment and 500 bags of fertiliser to vegetable farmers in Pomaakrom in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region.
The items were donated to the Pomaakrom Patra Union as part of efforts to increase vegetable production and support farmers to cultivate throughout the year.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr Eric Opoku said the intervention was aimed at addressing the challenges farmers face during the dry season, particularly inadequate access to water for irrigation.
He said the government was committed to ending the situation where vegetable farmers are forced to suspend production during periods of limited rainfall because of a lack of irrigation facilities.
The Chief of Pomaakrom, Osabarima Opoku Atta Ahenkan Bosuo II, welcomed the intervention and expressed appreciation to the Minister for supporting the farmers.
The Chairman of the Patra Union, Peter Yaw Opoku, also said the irrigation equipment and fertiliser would help improve the productivity of members and create opportunities for increased vegetable farming in the community.
They noted that access to irrigation facilities would encourage more residents to take up vegetable farming, particularly during the dry season.
