Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) customs officers seized 40 iPhones valued at approximately Ksh 8.2 million at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, October 1st. The phones, primarily iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, were seized from a passenger who had arrived in Kenya from Dubai four times in the past nine days.
KRA officials stated the passenger admitted to carrying the phones as a courier for a client in Dubai. The interception occurred at Terminal 1A International Arrivals after customs officers screened the passenger’s luggage using baggage scanners.
The authorities are investigating the passenger’s background and the nature of the courier service. KRA has stated that the iPhones were seized as part of a routine compliance check.
