Senior executives from Ghana’s mining, oil and gas industries convened at a cybersecurity firm’s Founder’s Opera Soirée hosted by e-Crime Bureau on Friday, September 25th, 2026, at its East Legon office. The event, themed “Managing Cyber and Related Risks in the Extractive Sector,” brought together industry leaders, professionals, and policymakers to examine the escalating threats posed by cyberattacks, fraud, and emerging technologies to their operations. The event underscored the critical need for proactive cybersecurity measures, given the increasingly interconnected nature of digital systems, industrial equipment, and physical facilities within the extractive sector.

The discussion, moderated by Presidential Staffer and media personality Bridget Otoo, centered on safeguarding data and systems – a key concern given the growing links between digital infrastructure, industrial equipment, and physical assets. Participants highlighted risks stemming from the proliferation of digital threats, including cyberattacks, the misuse of artificial intelligence, insider threats, industrial espionage, supply chain vulnerabilities, and incidents resulting in physical consequences. Specifically, the discussion explored how a digital breach could have devastating effects beyond computer networks, emphasizing the potential for disruption to safety, business continuity, and critical infrastructure.

A key focus of the session was the necessity for robust coordination across an organization’s structure. Experts emphasized that managing these risks required collaboration from senior management, operational teams, human resources, security staff, and external contractors. The event underscored that cybersecurity expertise must extend beyond purely technological defenses, encompassing the holistic impact of breaches.

The event was orchestrated by Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, Founder and Executive Chairman of e-Crime Bureau, who remarked that the inclusion of Italian opera offered an opportunity for executives to forge professional relationships in a setting outside conventional business meetings. Dr. Antwi-Boasiako highlighted the importance of Africa’s cybersecurity landscape and the contributions of Ghana-Italy relations. The event also emphasized the potential for digital transformation, cybersecurity collaboration, and cultural exchange – all vital components of a modern, resilient extractive sector.

e-Crime Bureau, established in 2011, provides a range of cybersecurity consulting, digital forensics investigations, training, and technology services. The firm’s services are designed to mitigate risks and enhance operational security for businesses operating within the demanding and increasingly complex environment of the extractive industry. The event demonstrated a commitment to proactive risk management, recognizing the transformative potential of digital technology while simultaneously acknowledging the significant challenges it presents.

The event saw participation from industry representatives, government officials, and cybersecurity experts, solidifying the importance of collaboration and expertise in protecting vital infrastructure and operations within the mining, oil, and gas sectors. The focus on data protection and cybersecurity resilience underscored a growing urgency to address these challenges, highlighting the need for sustained investment and strategic planning within the extractive industry.”
