Inusah Fuseini, a former Tamale Central MP and private legal practitioner, has voiced significant criticism of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for attempting to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court premises. Fuseini contends that the court complex’s volatile environment rendered such an operation inherently problematic and suggests EOCO should have prioritized considering potential consequences rather than attempting the arrest, according to MyJoyOnline. The incident occurred on September 23, 2026, following a prior failure by the MP to honour two invitations issued in February 2026. Fuseini asserts that EOCO had not established a lawful basis for warrantless arrest, yet continued investigation efforts, he suggests, were underway. He further questioned whether EOCO had established a basis for effecting a warrantless arrest, stating that no crime had been committed in their presence. Furthermore, he pointed out that EOCO had not indicated a basis for determining whether the MP had committed a crime or whether there was reasonable suspicion of a crime. Fuseini’s assessment highlights a perceived lack of due process and a potential risk to public safety, claiming the operation proceeded within the court’s environment without proper consideration of the situation. The MP expressed his concern that the initial interaction between EOCO officials and Mr. Awuah appeared to have been civil and cordial, prompting him to question why the situation escalated. He stated that the approach was problematic, suggesting that the operation might have been a result of heightened tension or an assessment that further action could endanger public safety. EOCO maintains that the attempted arrest was part of its statutory responsibilities and that the operation was not completed after assessing the situation’s potential for escalation. The Office has confirmed that the investigation remains active, stating that it will review available video evidence before determining its next steps. The report detailed the attempted arrest as part of a larger ongoing investigation into the MP’s activities and attendance, according to the source.
