The General Secretary of the Techiman-Krobo Youth Association, Gyan Isaac Kentinka, has initiated a formal and sustained questioning of the continued presence of Hellen Dwamena, Principal of the Techiman-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College, despite the institution being closed pending investigations into recent protests and allegations against her administration. This situation has sparked considerable concern within the Techiman-Krobo community, particularly amongst students, who staged a demonstration over perceived leadership challenges within the college.
According to Mr. Kentinka, the Principal’s continued office represents a significant disruption to the educational process and raises serious questions regarding the integrity of the investigation. He stated that the community subsequently convened a press conference to formally express their grievances and petition relevant authorities. The Minister of Health later constituted a committee to investigate the community’s concerns, and Mr. Kentinka appeared before the committee to provide information on the allegations raised by the community.
However, Mr. Kentinka asserted that the Principal continues to report to work despite the ongoing investigation. He added, “We all know what happened at Techiman-Krobo. The nursing training students demonstrated against the principal. As a community, we held a press conference to express our grievances,” he said. He further alleged that the Principal recently directed tutors to return to the school to upload students’ results, but the teachers declined. This refusal, he claimed, was attributed to outstanding allowances owed by the school’s management.
The Youth Association General Secretary, Mr. Kentinka, emphasized the community’s demand for the Principal’s immediate step aside pending the investigation’s conclusion. He stated that ahead of the committee’s work, the community had demanded that the woman should step aside until the investigation is complete, citing the potential for her continued presence to undermine confidence in the process.
The controversy stems from a protest initiated by students of the Techiman-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College concerning concerns about the administration of the institution. This protest subsequently attracted the attention of the community and authorities, leading to the establishment of an investigative committee by the Health Ministry. Mr. Kentinka is now demanding clarity on the Principal’s status and the rationale for allowing her to remain at post while the school remains closed and investigations continue. He maintains that the concerns raised by the students and community must be addressed transparently, with the findings of the investigation guiding the appropriate action.
