Tyrone Blackburn, a lawyer facing significant pressure, is grappling with a barrage of sanctions following a critical deadline to withdraw as counsel for Terrance Dixon’s case against Fat Joe. The situation stems from a missed court deadline to correct and refile his withdrawal papers, a move that has triggered a formal threat from U.S. Magistrate Judge Jennifer E. Willis.

According to court documents, Willis stated that Blackburn ignored a September 17th deadline to rectify his withdrawal and submit a revised filing. ‘Any further untimeliness in complying with the Court’s orders will not be tolerated,’ Willis emphasized, indicating a serious escalation in legal proceedings.

Blackburn’s actions are rooted in a complex dispute involving a non-waivable conflict with Fat Joe’s legal counsel, and a fear for his safety, according to his own statements. He claims a physical proximity to Fat Joe’s legal team is problematic.

In July, Blackburn declared that his fear was connected to a 2025 arrest after a server provider attempted to serve him with documents related to Fat Joe’s lawsuit. The declaration detailed his assessment that any contact with Fat Joe’s counsel or their retained agents posed an unsafe situation.

The April 2025 case involved a defamation and emotional distress lawsuit filed by Dixon against Blackburn and Fat Joe, stemming from a $20 million demand tied to ghostwriting and alleged sexual coercion allegations. Fat Joe countered with his own $20 million federal action, alleging exploitation, fraud, forced labor, sexual coercion, and witness intimidation.

Dixon’s initial dismissal of the RICO, statutory rape and minor-trafficking allegations in June 2025 highlights the evolving legal battle. By March 2026, Dixon had dropped the RICO and statutory rape claims while continuing wage, copyright, forced-labor, and fraud claims.

Following a May 2025 service attempt, Blackburn allegedly struck the 66-year-old server with his vehicle, subsequently failing to sustain charges. Following this incident, Blackburn acknowledged a cruise during the disputed period, with Dixon later held in contempt and ordered to pay related costs.

Willis has also sent Blackburn’s conduct to the district’s attorney-discipline panel, citing concerns about his deposition misconduct in June.

Willis’s judgment detailed, ‘The Court has never seen the sort of behavior from an attorney that Blackburn engaged in at the deposition on February 24th.’

Blackburn’s withdrawal created another complication when protected deposition material was made public, forcing Willis to seal the entry and demand corrected papers.

A September 30th conference remains scheduled on the withdrawal request, with Dixon required to appear after Blackburn serves the corrected papers. Willis gave Blackburn until August 26th to refile the corrected withdrawal papers and serve them on Dixon.
