Stephen Wengam as its General Superintendent following a resounding victory in the church’s 2026 General Council Meeting, themed ‘Re-elected Overwhelmingly as General Superintendent.’ The election results indicate a significant mandate for continued leadership and strategic direction for the church’s operations, extending beyond the immediate stewardship of the congregation.
Rev. Wengam secured a remarkable 3,727 votes, representing 89.48% of the total cast, surpassing his challenger, Rev. Kwame Bansah, who garnered 432 votes while six votes were rejected. This outcome signifies a strong and decisive victory, solidifying his position as the primary leader of the church for the next term.
Prior to this momentous occasion, Rev. Wengam had previously served as General Superintendent in August 2022, overseeing the church’s activities and initiatives. His tenure has been characterized by a dedicated commitment to guiding the congregation’s growth and development. He’s held leadership positions within the African Assemblies of God Alliance, a global network comprising over 20 million members and more than 100,000 local churches, and is a key member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, which encompasses approximately 89.9 million members worldwide, with a prominent role in the Church Health Commission.
Beyond his leadership role within Ghana, Rev. Wengam holds significant influence as Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance, a crucial alliance that facilitates collaboration and resource sharing among over 20 million members across numerous denominations. He also serves as a Cabinet member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, chairs the Church Health Commission, and is a member of the Ghana Immigration Service Governing Council, having previously served as Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council. His appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council underscores his extensive experience within the church’s administrative structure.
Rev. Wengam’s leadership extends beyond the confines of Ghana, encompassing a significant role in the international community. He’s a founding and lead pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel in East Legon since October 2010. He is married to Lady Monica Wengam, who was born November 2000, and they have two children, Ithra Yenupiini and Matthew-King Baanan Wengam. The election of Rev.
