The Ashanti Regional Police Command has executed a series of intelligence-led operations across the region, resulting in the apprehension of seven individuals in separate arrests concerning suspected narcotics-related activities. These operations, initiated on Thursday, August 20, 2026, commenced at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction, and Atimatim, with support from the IGP Special Operations Team (SOT). The SOT’s involvement underscores the regional authorities’ commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking within the Ashanti region.
The initial arrests followed a pattern of intelligence – the police revealed that the investigations were focused on the possession, use, control, and sale of narcotic substances. Specifically, four individuals were apprehended at Ejisu, including 43-year-old Nana Kwadwo Adu and 48-year-old Nana Kwame Fella. At Abrepo Junction, seven more were apprehended, identified as Stephanie Anokye, Roland Anokye, Gideon Owusu, and Grace Fosua. Kofi Opoku, a 27-year-old suspect, was also seized at Atimatim, following prior evasion attempts.
The police recovered a significant quantity of narcotics – several pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, along with quantities of Tramadol 225mg, Tramadol 250mg, Royal 255mg, and Rophynol 100mg. Furthermore, the authorities seized 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol, potentially unregistered drugs, and an unspecified amount of cash. The recovered substances represent a substantial increase in the police’s efforts to disrupt the drug trade network within the Ashanti region.
The Police emphasized that these investigations are ongoing, aiming to establish the source of the substances, determine the extent of each suspect’s involvement, and identify any potential links to other persons involved in these activities. They have also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities by providing credible information that could aid in the combatting of narcotics-related activities and safeguarding public safety. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has stated that it will be utilizing various intelligence gathering techniques to solidify the investigations and prevent further criminal activity. The operation was conducted in a proactive manner, recognizing the importance of maintaining law and order within the region. The investigation is being led by Inspector Samuel Ademo, and the SOT is providing support and expertise.
