The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has unequivocally refuted claims of financial losses incurred during 2025, a dismissal delivered by Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, following a review of the Auditor-General’s report. Gyamfi stated that the Auditor-General’s report provides clear evidence to the contrary, confirming the institution’s financial stability. Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, Mr. Gyamfi asserted that GoldBod’s records were fully accessible to the Auditor-General during the 2025 audit, a process that allowed for complete examination of all financial statements. He clarified that claims of limited access to information were unfounded and represent an attempt to discredit the auditor’s findings, a tactic he termed ‘discrediting’ an independent constitutional body. According to Mr. Gyamfi, all requested documents were provided, while queries were satisfactorily addressed. “All documents requested by them were supplied and all queries raised by them in their management letter were satisfactorily answered,” he asserted. The audit’s outcome, he emphasized, should definitively establish that GoldBod did not experience any financial losses during the period. ‘This is why not a single adverse audit finding was made by the Auditor-General in his 2025 Auditor Report on the Gold Board, not on imaginary losses,’ Mr. Gyamfi stated. The GoldBod chief executive underscored that the allegations were inconsistent with the Auditor-General’s findings and should not be presented as established fact. The absence of a finding in the Auditor-General’s report signifies a significant oversight, demonstrating that GoldBod’s 2025 financial accounts underwent the required external scrutiny. ‘Afenyo Markin and his followers have consciously chosen to disregard the Auditor-General’s confirmation that Gold Board did not record a professional loss,’ he said. Furthermore, Mr. Gyamfi criticized attempts to undermine the credibility of the Auditor-General’s findings, asserting that they did not support claims being made against GoldBod. ‘This position betrays either a crass lack of understanding of how an external audit is conducted or a deliberate determination to undermine yet another independent state institution, independent constitutional body, when its findings do not suit their material narratives,’ he asserted. He challenged those alleging losses to reconcile their claims with the Auditor-General’s report, insisting that the official audit findings should provide the basis for assessing the institution’s financial performance. The Auditor-General’s report, Mr. Gyamfi reiterated, is the definitive source for establishing the institution’s financial standing, and its findings should be the foundation for future assessment. The GoldBod’s financial performance, according to the audit, is secure and is expected to continue, based on the findings presented by the Auditor-General.
