The situation surrounding a directive allowing selected High Court judges to sit during legal vacations has ignited controversy, prompting legal practitioner Thaddeus Sory to advocate for alternative dispute resolution methods, particularly amongst lawyers dissatisfied with judicial decisions. Sory, speaking on the KSM Show on August 17, 2026, emphasized that lawyers facing disagreement with judicial rulings have multiple avenues available, including challenging decisions through established legal channels. He stated, “The judge is going to write the ruling. You can challenge it,” stressing that the legal system offers a structured process for addressing disagreements.

His comments come amidst a dispute between lawyers representing former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene and former National Food Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer Hanan Abdul-Wahab, who have sought to defer their cases until October when the new legal year begins. They argue that the Chief Justice’s directive is inappropriate and that public commentary could escalate tensions without resolving the underlying issues.

Sory further urged lawyers to engage directly with the Chief Justice, proposing a direct dialogue rather than immediate public campaigns. He cautioned against alleging political interference or bias before pursuing legal remedies, suggesting that public statements can sometimes fuel negative sentiment. He questioned the rationale behind utilizing media campaigns, suggesting they may be counterproductive and could instead encourage polarized opinions. Sory stated, “Why don’t we engage the system in the appropriate way?”

The discussion underscores a growing concern within the legal community regarding the potential for media-driven reactions to judicial disagreements. The Deputy, who was previously discussing the NDC’s interest in the issue, added, “There’s nothing wrong; NDC’s interest aligns with the constitution –” The article concludes with a brief mention of the ongoing discussion and the anticipated follow-up from Adom Online.
