Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai has vigorously defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s strategy of accelerating judicial proceedings, asserting that this position aligns with the constitutional requirement for accused persons to have their cases determined swiftly. He contends that the NDC’s political interests are intrinsically linked to a constitutional obligation to ensure a speedy trial, and he has demonstrated that the constitution mandates this expedited process. Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, he rejected claims that the government was deliberately manipulating the legal vacation system to secure favorable outcomes in cases involving former government officials. He stated, “There are two answers to that. Two things can coincide. Okay. So, the interest of my political party, the NDC, can be equal to the interest of the constitution, and in this case, I’ve demonstrated that the constitution mandates that we have a speedy trial.”
