Fourteen individuals have been arrested by the police in the Upper East region on suspicion of cultivating and distributing narcotic drugs [wee] at Daliga in the Nabdam District. This significant development follows an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and the newly formed Black Cobra Team. The operation, initiated on August 16, 2026, represents a substantial escalation in the region’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and illicit activities. The police report that the operation stemmed from an intelligence assessment that indicated a substantial and potentially dangerous network operating within the Daliga area.

The suspects, identified as Alex Nyaaba, 63; Charles Kolog Dombil, 30; Jenifer Ziimi, 30; Ziimi Pandan, 45; Tobire Naab, 70; Yinteng James, 59; Sandenab Peelim, 35; Abane Zamgbeog, 48; Borimi Nahou, 29; Tobil Wandabil, 27; Furimi Nabdok, 29; Nahou Dogobila, 41; Gurimi Teng, 26; Gurimi Kugeri, 20, and several others, were apprehended during a targeted operation. The police are currently classifying the arrested individuals as suspected cultivators and distributors of narcotic drugs, with a particular focus on the illicit production of marijuana and maize.

The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Black Cobra,’ leverages advanced intelligence gathering techniques, including surveillance and data analysis. According to the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command, the initial discovery occurred during a search of suspected agricultural areas surrounding Daliga. The police stated that preliminary investigations revealed a large quantity of millet and maize being utilized as a concealment mechanism for the narcotics. Specifically, the authorities discovered that the suspects were actively cultivating a significant number of plants, with a deliberate strategy of concealing their farming operations from law enforcement.

The investigation revealed that the suspected Indian hemp was being cultivated alongside millet and maize as a method of concealing the farms and evading detection. The police emphasized that this operation is part of a broader strategy to disrupt the cultivation, distribution, and supply networks that facilitate the circulation of narcotic drugs throughout the Upper East Region. The police investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are currently in custody pending further legal proceedings. The command has urged the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities related to the cultivation or distribution of narcotics to assist in the investigation and ensure the safety and security of the community.

Further details regarding the scope of the operation and the quantity of narcotics seized are expected to be released in the coming days. The police are also collaborating with neighboring regions to coordinate efforts and prevent further illicit activities. The operation represents a significant step forward in the region’s fight against drug trafficking, and the police are committed to upholding the law and protecting the interests of the community.
