The NDC Constituency Chairman for Bia West, Ahmed Ibrahim, has issued a forceful order to halt the distribution of free cocoa fertiliser to farmers in the region, sparking a political dispute and raising serious allegations of partisan manipulation within the exercise. The directive, communicated at a press conference in Debiso, follows accusations that cocoa fertiliser is being disproportionately allocated to individuals with political affiliations, particularly those supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Ibrahim, speaking to the media, asserted that the government’s free fertiliser programme is designed to benefit all eligible cocoa farmers, irrespective of their political leanings. He vehemently denied any selective distribution, claiming that the initiative was intended to provide a vital resource for agricultural development across Bia West. According to Ibrahim, some farmers, notably those perceived to be supporters of the NPP, are being prioritized in the distribution process, creating a perception of unfairness.

He stated that the suspension is a direct response to these concerns, emphasizing that the exercise had commenced in Oseikojokrom and surrounding communities, but the halt has left several farmers uncertain about the timing of their distribution. The chairman further indicated that the disruption is causing considerable anxiety amongst the agricultural community, with several farmers expressing frustration and questioning the fairness of the situation.

The situation has triggered a political dispute within the Bia West constituency, with the NPP challenging the NDC chairman’s decision to halt the distribution. Kwame Sarfo Reuben, the NPP’s Communication Officer, has criticized the action as unfair and demanded that farmers stand in opposition to what he describes as an unnecessary interference in the distribution process. Reuben issued a three-day ultimatum to the NDC chairman and CHED officials to address the concerns surrounding the exercise, urging a swift resolution to the situation.

This dispute has deepened the existing political tensions in Bia West, with farmers caught in the middle, awaiting clarity on when the distribution will resume. The NDC’s decision, coupled with the allegations of political bias, has created a volatile situation, potentially impacting the overall impact of the free fertiliser programme on agricultural output and economic growth within the region. The government’s stated intent – to provide equitable access to vital resources – is now being questioned in the face of these allegations, intensifying the scrutiny on the programme’s implementation and potential for misuse. The incident highlights a potential challenge to the integrity of the distribution process and underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in government initiatives.

The controversy has drawn significant attention from agricultural analysts and political commentators, with many questioning the motives behind the alleged selective allocation and the potential impact on the region’s agricultural economy. Further investigation into the matter is expected to reveal the full extent of the allegations and the underlying political dynamics at play.

This situation is being closely monitored by local media outlets and political observers across Bia West, with the potential for further escalation adding to the overall political tension.
