The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has formally inaugurated a new audit committee, a pivotal step in bolstering its internal controls, risk management, and overall oversight systems within the institution. This initiative represents a significant strategic shift, reflecting a deepened commitment to safeguarding the integrity of EOCO’s operations and ensuring compliance with regulations. The inauguration, held on Monday, August 10, 2026, by Acting Deputy Director-General Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, Acting Director-General Conrad Z. Dumbah, and representing the outgoing committee, underscored the importance placed on robust financial management and accountability. The committee’s mandate, meticulously established through law, is a cornerstone of EOCO’s operational framework. Mr. Aborbi-Ayitey, in his capacity as Acting Deputy Director-General, reiterated this commitment, stressing the necessity for adherence to confidentiality protocols and prompt submission of audit reports. He also emphasized the critical role of the committee in identifying and mitigating potential vulnerabilities that could expose EOCO to unacceptable risks. Specifically, the committee’s expanded role will involve collaborating closely with EOCO’s internal audit unit to systematically review and strengthen the institution’s internal control systems. This collaborative effort is anticipated to address weaknesses that could jeopardize EOCO’s credibility and operational stability. The introduction of a new committee represents a proactive response to growing scrutiny and a concerted effort to bolster the institution’s defenses against illicit activities and financial misconduct. The executive leadership of EOCO, led by Raymond Archer, has expressed unwavering support for the committee’s objectives, recognizing the potential for this enhanced oversight to significantly improve the organization’s internal audit processes. Nathan Yankey, elected Chairperson of the newly formed committee, accepted the mandate with gratitude, pledging to prioritize the resolution of outstanding audit infractions and simultaneously strengthen EOCO’s internal audit and risk management systems. The selection process for the committee’s leadership reflects a deliberate effort to ensure diverse perspectives and expertise are brought to bear on this crucial task, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement within the EOCO structure. The initial focus will likely involve a thorough assessment of existing policies and procedures, along with implementation of enhanced monitoring and reporting mechanisms. The committee’s activities are expected to contribute substantially to the institution’s overall financial health and operational security, solidifying EOCO’s standing as a trusted and responsible organization within the legal and regulatory landscape. Furthermore, the inauguration ceremony was attended by several members of the Internal Audit Agency, signifying a collaborative approach to strengthening EOCO’s internal controls. The establishment of this new committee represents a tangible demonstration of EOCO’s dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability in its financial dealings, bolstering public confidence in the institution’s integrity.” , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
