President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a significant expansion of secondary education initiatives, with a projected construction of 30 new E-block schools across the nation. This ambitious plan, spearheaded by the government’s Star J Project, aims to bring secondary education closer to students, particularly those residing in densely populated areas. The President’s announcement, made during a visit to Paga, Upper East Region, on August 13, 2026, underscored a commitment to enhancing accessibility to secondary schooling. Specifically, the initiative focuses on establishing separate facilities from previous abandoned E-block projects, acknowledging the legacy of previous administration efforts to complete these crucial infrastructure improvements. The President stated that the new schools will be constructed from the ground up, with a distinct focus on geographical distribution. He explained that the locations will be determined by population density, prioritizing areas with high concentrations of residents. ‘A lot of these new ones will be in high population density areas,’ he asserted, emphasizing that major cities and densely populated communities will be prioritized. ‘So, in some of the major cities across the country, we will put E-blocks in high-density areas so that those will be community day schools,’ he added. The President underscored that the approach is designed to reduce student travel distances, making secondary education more readily available. ‘It means the children can even walk from home to the secondary school,’ he remarked, highlighting the benefit of this shift. Furthermore, the President noted that the initial challenges with earlier E-block locations – situated in rural districts with widespread scattered communities – have been addressed. He explained that students in such areas frequently faced considerable distances to reach schools, necessitating the conversion of some of these facilities into boarding arrangements. ‘And so that’s why several of those schools were converted into boarding facilities,’ he clarified. The President also noted that the strategic placement of these new schools is intended to serve communities with high populations and improve access to secondary education. In addition to this expansion, the government is targeting the completion of 35 Agenda 111 hospitals by the end of 2026. The President’s also announced plans for the construction of Bolgatanga Airport, with anticipated commencement by the end of 2026. The initiative represents a significant investment in the future of Ghanaian education, aiming to address inequities in educational access and ensure a more widespread availability of secondary schooling across the country.” , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
