Loud explosions were heard in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Saturday, while the Houthis reported airstrikes by Saudi forces in the city area. According to France 24, one correspondent heard at least five explosions in different areas, while another saw two warplanes firing missiles at the city.

The Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah television channel called it Saudi aggression against the capital, without providing information about the targets of the strikes or possible casualties. Earlier the same day, the channel also reported missile strikes on a telecommunications network in the northwestern province of Saada, which the source describes as a Houthi stronghold.

The Houthis claimed that Saudi Arabia bombed Sanaa on Thursday night for the first time since hostilities resumed in July. After several years of relative calm, the conflict has escalated again in Yemen between the Iran-backed Houthis, who control most of the country’s northwest, including Sanaa, and Yemen’s internationally recognized government, which is supported by Saudi Arabia.

More current news is available on the UA.News Telegram channel Telegram.

The Aden-based government controls a significant part of southern and eastern Yemen. According to France 24, hostilities resumed after Iran sent a plane carrying a Houthi delegation to Sanaa without Saudi Arabia’s permission. In response, Riyadh struck Sanaa airport, after which the Houthis attacked Saudi territory for the first time since 2022.

In recent days, fighting has concentrated around Taiz. On Friday, the Houthis reported the deaths of 55 of their fighters, while government sources told AFP that 26 servicemen had been killed. On Friday, the Houthis also said Saudi Arabia had carried out 94 strikes on areas under their control in the previous 24 hours. Saudi authorities, for their part, reported damage to a school in the city of Najran near the border with Yemen as a result of a Houthi projectile strike.

On Saturday, an AFP journalist saw flames and smoke above a facility belonging to Saudi oil company Aramco south of Riyadh. The circumstances of the incident remained unclear, and neither the Houthis nor Saudi authorities had commented on the event at that time.
