In Cyprus, the head of the French defence technology company Thales called for increased investment in artificial intelligence-based cyber protection. According to him, this is necessary because of the growing number of cyberattacks that use AI, Cyprus Mail reports.
The head of Thales said at an event presenting cybersecurity tools that artificial intelligence allows attackers to act faster and makes it easier to carry out complex attacks. He also noted that some models are gaining autonomy and can operate without human supervision.
At the same time, according to the company’s head, defenders can use these same technologies at the same scale and with the same speed as attackers. He described the pace of growth in cyberattacks as alarming.

The event presented new cybersecurity tools, including software to protect against attacks using AI, as well as a partnership with Google Cloud intended to help companies work with artificial intelligence more securely.
The head of Thales also said that state actors are among those involved in cyberattacks. Their targets may include not only government institutions and organisations, but also private companies that provide critically important services.
European governments are concerned that, in their view, Russia, an aggressor state, has stepped up attempts at sabotage, cyberattacks and other hybrid actions in Europe in order to undermine support for Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied involvement in such attacks.
