The Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office – Planning and Investment, Dr Pius Stephen Chaya, has invited Italian investors to make Tanzania a hub for production, processing and trade serving African and global markets. Speaking in Italy during the Tanzania–Europe Roadshow, Dr Chaya said Tanzania is ready to enter a new phase of economic cooperation with Italy focused on technology, innovation, knowledge transfer and value-adding investment. He identified major opportunities in agriculture and agro-processing, renewable energy and information and communication technology (ICT), stressing that Tanzania was seeking not only to increase production but also to transform raw materials into higher-value products, create jobs and expand exports. ‘Do not come to Tanzania simply to sell. Come to produce, process, innovate and export products from Tanzania to Africa and global markets,’ Dr Chaya said. He said Tanzania has an opportunity to serve as a gateway to the East African Community (EAC), Southern African Development Community (SADC) and African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) markets, while the government continues to improve the investment environment through the President’s Office – Planning and Investment, TISEZA and ZIPA. He also invited Italian companies to invest in clean energy, digital infrastructure, fintech, data centres, artificial intelligence and advanced agricultural technologies. He said Tanzania was ready to work with Italy to build a competitive economy aligned with the goals of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.
