MC Lyte reveals she’s back in the studio with Warryn Campbell as the Hip-Hop pioneer prepares for her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
EXCLUSIVE: MC Lyte may be headed to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but the Hip-Hop pioneer tells AllHipHop she’s already creating what comes next.
MC Lyte isn’t treating her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction like the end of the road, she’s plowing ahead.
During an exclusive conversation with AllHipHop’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur, the Hip-Hop legend revealed she’s back in the studio with acclaimed producer Warryn Campbell. Together they are exploring what comes next musically.
“I’m in the studio right now with Warryn Campbell,” Lyte told AllHipHop. “We’re talking about what’s next. And, you know, I’m excited about it.”

There’s no title or release date, but she said creating new music remains one of the places where she finds genuine happiness.
“Anytime I get the chance to put down the rest of the world and go in the studio and then pick up the world when I come back out, I am joyful,” she explained. “I know at least I’m going to be happy with the process of creating something that’s fresh and new.”
And music isn’t the only thing on her slate.
Lyte also teased upcoming acting projects and revealed that she’s doing directing work.
“There’s some acting stuff coming up, some directing that I’m doing,” she said. “So I’m just excited.”
Lyte also pointed to activity surrounding clients VanVan, Ariel and Chicago-based spin master DJ Jermaine.
“We are just overflowing with things to do,” she said. “So, the to-do list is long, Chuck.”
This is a landmark chapter in MC Lyte’s nearly four-decade career.
She is part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 and will be honored with the Musical Influence Award. She set to be bestowed with the distinction alongside fellow honorees including Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti and Gram Parsons. The induction ceremony takes place November 14 in Los Angeles.
Before then, Lyte is celebrating her journey on the Road To The Hall of Fame Tour, an intimate run built around performance, storytelling and the music.
She told AllHipHop that performing for people who have supported her throughout the years is important.
“Honestly, going out on the road with a tour like this, an intimate setting, when people show up, to me, that’s my Walk of Fame,” Lyte said.
