The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast moderate to heavy rains in several parts of the country over the next five days, from Sunday, October 4 to Thursday, October 8.
According to the weather department, rainfall is expected across parts of the Coast, Central, Northern Kenya, Western, Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin regions.
In the Coast region, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale are expected to receive moderate rains between Sunday and Thursday, mainly in the afternoon and at night.
Similarly, Lamu is expected to record light showers in the mornings and nights throughout the five days, while Taita Taveta is forecast to receive light rains on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the Northeastern region, Wajir is expected to receive morning rains from Sunday to Thursday, while Mandera is forecast to experience light rains on Monday and Tuesday.
Marsabit is also expected to receive light rains each morning throughout the five days, with light showers forecast at night, while Isiolo is expected to record afternoon light showers on Sunday and Monday.
Meru is expected to receive morning rains throughout the period, with light afternoon showers, while Tharaka-Nithi and Embu are expected to receive morning rains and afternoon showers over the five days.
The Highland East counties of Kitui, Machakos and Makueni are also expected to record light morning rains throughout the five days, with afternoon showers forecast from Monday to Thursday.
In Central Kenya, Nyeri is forecast to receive light rains on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with moderate rains expected Tuesday morning, while Kirinyaga and Murang'a are expected to receive morning rains throughout the period.
Nairobi and Kiambu Counties are also expected to receive morning rains throughout the five days, with moderate afternoon showers forecast on Wednesday and Thursday.
Kenya Met also warned of heavy rains in Western Kenya and the Rift Valley, with Trans Nzoia and Elgeyo-Marakwet expected to receive thunderstorms from Monday to Wednesday.
Kericho, Bomet, Nandi and Baringo are expected to experience a similar pattern, while Kakamega and Vihiga are forecast to receive afternoon rains accompanied by thunderstorms from Monday to Thursday.
At the same time, Bungoma is forecast to receive afternoon rains on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, while Busia is expected to record similar rainfall on Tuesday and Thursday.
In the Lake Victoria basin, Siaya, Kisumu and Homa Bay are expected to receive heavy rains throughout the forecast period, particularly in the afternoon.
The latest Kenya Met update comes as the country braces for the October-December rainy season, which coincides with a projected El Niño event.
